At PlanetPlay, we love to see the games industry championing purpose and impact alongside play, so we’re sending huge congratulations to all the winners and finalists in this year’s Environmental and CSR categories at the GamesIndustry.biz UK Best Places to Work Awards!
Whether it’s building greener workplaces, launching studio-wide sustainability policies, or embedding social impact into company culture, these are the studios setting a powerful example for how creativity and responsibility can go hand-in-hand:
Environmental Award
Rare (winner)
NaturalMotion
Behaviour Interactive
MLC Studio
Fireshine Games
Corporate Social Responsibility Award
Behaviour Interactive (Winner)
Playground Games
NaturalMotion
Rocksteady
Tanglewood Games
If your studio wasn’t among this year’s finalists, don’t worry. The first step towards positive environmental impact doesn’t have to be complicated, and you certainly don’t have to do it alone.
First up, drop the PlanetPlay team a message! We help studios of all sizes unlock new ways to turn gameplay into real-world environmental action, without extra dev time or complex integrations. From green in-game activations to green marketplace revenue shares, we make it easy (and measurable) to do good while you play.
But there are also some other great places to begin exploring the power of games for environmental and social impact, whether you’re looking to research fundamental green issues that impact us all, or expert guidance specifically for games studios:
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
A long-term PlanetPlay partner (for the ongoing Play2Act gamer survey), the UNDP’s Climate Promise initiatives show how collective action including through games can accelerate progress towards global climate goals.
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
UNEP’s sustainability education projects highlight how small, well-designed actions can lead to massive behavioural shifts, a philosophy that games are perfectly positioned to support. Indeed, the organisation established Playing for the Planet (see below!).
The GREAT Project
Funded by Horizon Europe and UKRI, the Games Realising Effective and Affective Transformation (GREAT) project is researching how games can shape climate awareness, civic participation, and sustainable policy. (PlanetPlay is a proud GREAT supporter and participant!)
Playing for the Planet Alliance
Led by UNEP, this alliance brings together studios, platforms, and partners who are embedding sustainability into games, operations, and storytelling. Check out Playing for the Planet for case studies, green activations, and inspiration.
Sustainable Games Alliance
The Sustainable Games Alliance is a non-profit founded by the world’s leading game entrepreneurs and environmental researchers with one goal: to make the games industry the leader in sustainability by setting ambitious and achievable standards.
Your Next Level: Make Green Moves
The journey toward a more sustainable industry (in both games and the wider business ecosystem) doesn’t happen overnight, but every action counts.
Whether it’s integrating a green in-game event, offsetting studio operations, or simply opening the conversation, PlanetPlay is here to help you make meaningful, measurable impact.
Contact us today to find out how your studio can join the movement and make green moves that matter.
