Thanks to the generosity of gamers, studios, platforms, and global viewers, our first-ever Green Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest on June 7th has raised an incredible $150,000 for our Gold Standard sustainability partner WithOneSeed: enough to plant our target of 50,000 trees in Timor‑Leste for vital habitat restoration.
A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all participating studios & platforms – your creativity, green-themed activations and donations made this possible; everyone who tuned in to watch live and on-demand; and all those who have contributed via the PlanetPlay Marketplace.
We’d also like to thank all the media and influencers who helped us raise awareness ahead of and during the livestream, including IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer, PC Gamer, Engadget, GamesRadar, Gamereactor, Radio Times, Destructoid, Video Games Chronical, Gematsu, Game Informer and many more.
Your support has once again turned gameplay into real-world environmental impact.
Hosted by games journalist Will Freeman, the Showcase shined a spotlight on the games that are leading the way in environmental engagement.
PlanetPlay Ambassador Sir Ian Livingstone CBE, a founding father of the UK games industry and a lifelong champion of ‘the power of play’, also joined Will during the stream for a thought-provoking Q&A on how games can inspire meaningful climate action.
Participating studio and platform partners included Actrio Studio, Amazon Games, Anima Interactive, Ash Games, Axlebolt, EARTHWise, Flick Games, Lab Cave Games, Leti Arts, Lockwood Publishing, MeshMinds (Roblox), Netspeak Games, NEARstudios, Northern Forge, Pixel Federation Games, Sensible Band, Serious Bros, Sharkmob, Skybound Games, Solarpunk Jam, Starvania, Team17, Ten Square Games, Tilting Point, Tiny Bytes, Tower Studios, Treesplease Games, Trevor Noah’s Day Zero Games, Vizor Apps, Wicked Saints Studios and Yaldi Games.
To illustrate just how engaged gamers can be with green messaging, one studio experienced a 400% increase in wishlisting after featuring as part of the Showcase, while others saw 50% more installs and 75% more store impressions over the same period.
Together, we’ve shown that play and purpose can unite for planet-positive change. By turning engagement into action, we’re proving what the games community can achieve.
Stay tuned for more updates from PlanetPlay over the summer, including: a special focus on indie games and a new socially-driven buying experience on our marketplace the next phase of our Play2Act global gamer survey with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); and an exciting activation as part of our ongoing Make Green Moves initiative.
If your studio or platform wants to team up and help us make a difference, reach out to Felix Bradshaw at felix.b@planetplay.com.
