This annual reflection highlights the progress we’ve made collaboratively with our partners, studios, and gamers worldwide, and sets the tone for an ambitious year ahead.
Our Mission in Action
PlanetPlay’s vision is simple: to harness the passion of over 3.4 billion players and the $190 billion games industry to drive sustainability. Through our initiatives, we’ve proven that games are more than entertainment – they are a force for environmental and social impact.
Key Highlights from 2024
1. Carbon Reductions
In 2024, PlanetPlay achieved significant milestones, saving 12,500 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to preserving 62,500 trees, through campaigns like Make Green Tuesday Moves (MGTM). These results demonstrate the tangible impact that gaming can have on tackling climate change.
2. Expanding Partnerships
We collaborated with leading studios and global organisations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Play2Act survey, launched in partnership with the UNDP, has so far engaged over 900,000 players, gathering critical insights on how gaming can support climate and nature challenges.
3. Empowering Gamers to make Green Tuesday Moves
Make Green Tuesday Moves (MGTM) continues to be a flagship initiative, inspiring gamers to contribute to sustainability projects by purchasing exclusive in-game content, with support from our studio partners and A-List celebrities. With 100% of proceeds funding certified projects, including reforestation, renewable energy, and water conservation, we’ve mobilised millions of players to make a difference.
4. Supporting Local and Global Communities
PlanetPlay is committed to encouraging and nurturing community resilience. Projects like the Hongera Cookstoves Initiative in Kenya have not only reduced carbon emissions but also improved the quality of life for thousands of families. Similarly, the WAI Wanaka Water Conservation Project in New Zealand has supported ecosystem preservation while raising awareness of critical environmental issues.
Looking Ahead to 2025
While 2024 was a year of milestones, our work is far from done. PlanetPlay is setting its sights higher, with our long-term goal of helping the gaming community collectively reduce 1 billion tonnes of carbon annually. This mission will be achieved through expanded partnerships, enhanced campaigns, and continued innovation in the way we engage players.
