PlanetPlay joins SYBO and Creative Denmark roundtable at Climate Week NYC

PlanetPlay is heading to Climate Week NYC (September 21-28) – and we’re looking forward to sharing insights and engaging in discussions with fellow changemakers from the games industry and beyond!

Climate Week in the Big Apple is now a well-established annual event that brings together a mix of leaders from the world of business, tech, politics, academia, and civil society that have the means, the scale and the ideas to take bold action.

We believe that it’s a key opportunity to shape corporate and political thinking – and we’re thrilled to be one of the games industry’s representatives at the event.

The focus of activity will be the ‘Gaming For Good: How Do We Maximize the Real-World Impact of the Games Industry’ roundtable, hosted by our friends at SYBO and Creative Denmark at the Consulate General of Denmark in New York.

Our Chief Strategy Officer Jude Ower MBE will be joining Dr Trisha Patterson, PhD (previously Sustainability Director at Xbox) for the panel discussion, chaired by SYBO CEO Mathias Gredal Norvig and Facilitated by Professor Paul Hollins of the University of Greater Manchester.

The aim is to explore how the world’s most engaging medium, video games, can drive real environmental change. Topics that will be covered include:

  • How we decarbonise the industry
  • How we can mobilise 3 billion people to turn online actions into real world impact
  • How games can be a platform to facilitate climate policy change.

The roundtable will encourage games studios large and small, NGOs and academia, to put actions into place on how to leverage this enormous media to tackle the climate crisis.

And we’d love you to join the debate! It all takes place on Wednesday 24 September 2025, 08:30 - 11:00.

But hurry, as places are limited!

Of course, while we’re in New York we’ll be meeting with our colleagues at the UN Development Programme, with whom we have deployed the Play2Act global in-game research initiative to explore how games can influence attitudes and actions around climate and nature.

Play2Act, which is now entering its 3rd phase, also contributes to the GREAT (Games Realising Effective and Affective Transformation) project, and is supported by the EU Horizon and UKRI, to explore how games can help solve the climate and nature crises.

UNDP is using the Play2Act findings to support global sustainability dialogue, especially among youth and in the Global South.
